Wonder if someone can help.
Am now 8 days post op and have had a few bad days but things are
improving slowly.
At 3 days I threw up and had to call the doctor out and he gave me an
injection.
Am learning that even some foods on the accepted list I cannot take.
ie: I decided to have a plain biscuit dipped in my tea to soften it up
and as soon as it hit my stomach I threw up.

I am at the moment having 2 hourly very very small amounts (perhaps 2
teaspoons) of allowed meals.

My bruising from the lap is starting to fade, was really bruised down
my left side.

What I can't get an answer to is, when am I going to be able to eat a
small meal without problems?
Plus I was having pre op, 1 glass of sambuka on an evening and it
helped my digestion, when am I gonna be able to have my 1 glass (shot
glass)?

Im hoping to return to work in another 4 weeks and can't picture
eating anything normal at this stage.

Some people recover quick and some don't. Took me six weeks.
See my post op log here.

Bob the logs are great, have bookmarked your pages, these are things
the doctor doesn't tell you.
Typically Im at day 9 now and its 4am as I have found if i start to
get uncomfortable in bed with the "niggle" from the operation (can't
call it real pain, its like a heavy heartburn but stuck on the les and
just below) Im better getting up and in my case having about 2
tablespoons of cornflakes well covered with milk and well chewed along
with 2 paracetamol.

I agree you are really not ready for the recovery bit, I have a friend
who had a partial several years ago and he had no problems at all.

Nice to see that my progress isn't abnormal its just how we are.

What I can't see in your logs are when you got back to work, my doctor
has given me 6 weeks off so hopefully I maybe ok by then but would
have like to return by 4. It does make you feel weak but he did warn
me about that.

I like the way you push yourself then ooops you regurgitate, yes I now
believe rather than vomit it is regurgitate as you don't get a vomit
type spasm.

Glad you kept a log of your weight as well as I'm following the same
path, started at 11stone (176 pounds) and now 10stone 6ib (171 pounds)

I'd say you can go back to work when you feel like it, if it's not physical.
Otherwise, you better take it real easy or your body won't be able to keep
going for too long without food and water.
It takes food and water to keep moving, so the less you do, the longer you
can survive without it.
If you deplete your body, you'll be in the hospital getting some nurishment
to keep going, so be careful.

Thanks for that Bob, I work in a hospital so they will probably not
allow me back until Im fit enough and they have said not to come back
too soon. its just me pushing me really.
Got the pound conversion wrong on the weight (should use kilo's really
but am stuck in the past!!!) and it was 4am!
Have just weighed myself and have lost 9 pounds in 9 days.

I have tried the hot water and it really helps as for breakfast had a
scrambled egg and it felt like it got stuck to the point of being sick
again but had a cup of really hot water and after a few sips it was
like taking a cork out of a bottle and the stuck feeling went.

Have been juicing vegetables, mainly carrots, celery, peppers ect and
am able to take the drinks quite well.

I do have a discomfort (cant call it pain) down my left side which
runs under my ribs and through to my back which almost feels like
things tightening up.
I guess this is all part and parcel of the insides healing.

Have showed my wife the website and she is surprised how a lot of my
complaints run parallel - thanks again.

If you are not lactose-intolerant it might be worth buying a body-building
drink from your pharmacist/supermarket to tide you over if you are getting
too emaciated.
http://www.gain-weight-muscle-fast.com/skinny-guy-dieting.html Although
most people nowadays in the western world could do with dropping 10s of
kilograms - you will be the best judge of that.

I suggest that you also start counting calories and avoid junk food. An
healthy, active man usually needs around 2500 kcalories per day.
http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm
http://www.weightlossforall.com/food-calories-list.htm

A pressure-cooker is a great tool for making broths, and cooking meat and
vegetables fast. Eating smaller more frequent nutritionally balanced meals
will help.
http://www.diethealthclub.com/askquestion/49/diet-chart-to-increase-weight-hi-i-am-27-5ft-9inch.html

Eat and drink: thick broths and plenty of water, mashed potato, mashed
carrots/parsnip/avocado/etc. To increase calorific intake mix cream/olive
oil/cheese/butter/almond or peanut butter/etc. in with the meal.
http://www.mypyramid.gov/pyramid/meat_tips.html

Otherwise something like Ensure/Fresubin/Fortimel/Fortisip is a lot cheaper
(half-price?) bought on the internet, although you have to buy from a known
and reputable dealer otherwise you run the risk that the product is a fake.
Again only if you are emaciated and/or suffering from signs of malnutrition
such as: tiredness, weakness, failing eyesight, hair falling out, etc.

Perhaps, you are friendly with the nutritionist in your hospital or can get
a referral from your doctor to see a nutritionist. The real worry is your
rapid weight loss - more than 3 kg per week is not recommended. If your body
mass index (BMI) drops below 18 then you have a real problem.
http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ Keep that patient diary.

Not too worried about weight loss at the moment as my bmi is 23.5
which is in the normal range but will keep an eye on it, my bmi was
just to say into the overweight before the op, I was told to expect
weight loss and following Bob's diary he was the same and gained
weight a few weeks on.
I am now 10 days post op but noticed I now have lost 12 pounds.

I really miss my small shot of Sambuka on an evening but dare not try
that yet.

I drink quite a bit of home juice extract from my veg and the list
that the hospital dietitian gave me I am sticking to.

As for junk food, never been a lover of junk food as dont eat crisps
or burgers and hate pizza's - The surgeon did say that i didn't fall
into the normal group to have a hiatus hernia but was just my luck i
guess.

I am becoming very aware of what my body will accept and what it
doesn't!!!

Thanks Vanny
Problem is you think you are getting there and then like this morning,
i had half a bowl of porridge and threw the lot back without any
warning almost.
It's really frustrating, my wife takes it right she just says, not
quite ready for porridge then?

Have had the strangest of feelings today, threw up most of the day
yesterday and stayed on fluids but started at square 1 today, been on
fluids but decided to have some milk pudding and after 4-5 spoonfuls
felt sick and decided to try and "wash it down" by sucking an ice
cube.
I felt that a pressure was building up and headed for the toilet but
before getting there felt the pressure suddenly release and the
sickness went.

I wonder if the les is still swollen and needs to go down a little
yet?
Maybe my day of chucking up upset the les!

I feel so much better in knowing that if i persist I can start to eat
a little and if I can avoid being sick then I can "retrain my les"

Does this sound right?

It sounds to me like you might be pushing it and need to relax a little and
give the healing time to do some more work.
Try a day or two without pushing anything down there. :O)
Have you tried the pressing on the top of your tongue with your fingers when
you get into trouble?

I actually found that just a little water was way worse then drinking a
whole glass of it at once.

To me sucking an ice cube would have caused me to gas up a lot, which would
put more pressure on things. I also found that sweet things seemed to go
down best.

When I had my fundo I was vastly better off than you are. I did have
a time getting the meals down into the stomach. I had to chew
everything
til it was very well chewed. Even rice would pile up on top of the
fundoplication site and would only just barely pass. Sometimes I'd
have
to walk around and wait for it pass. This took weeks to pass.

Skip the tea as it contain caffiene and related methyl xanthines.

I'll say I did get cramping when I was on high dose H-2 acid reducers
and later when on PPI meds as well. This was after the Fundo quit
working. Later I got better using alternative medicine which takes
at least in the case of some providers a vastly different view from
the conventional heartburn model. The provider had me increase
stomach acidity by the use of betaine HCL and I got better
than I ever was on the PPI meds or even the fundo.

I still avoid coffee and tea. I don't eat much citrus or tomato sauce.
Other than that with the help of the betaine HCL I can even eat
heavy starch and meat meals without reflux. Note though I now
on a very low carb diet so such meals are history for me.
I do eat very fatty meals these days and I have no problem.

One can sail east and one can sail west but either way on
one can get to the middle of the Pacific Ocean................Trig
