Why PPI meds are at best a mixed "solution".

Understand that when bile is refluxed into
the stomach and esophagus in a weakly acid
environment such as induced by PPI meds,
bile goes into solution and is free to
do the following discussed damage.

If you are worried about subscribing to sites, this is a
good one.

I signed up for Medscape several years ago, primarily
interested in diabetes and CLL.

It is one of the better Medical sites available to
lay-people on the net and web. I have never received spam as
a result of joining, nor had any other problems related to
Medscape.

If it really worries you, open a throwaway email account
with Yahoo or Gmail and use that.

It will be worth the effort.

I can second that. I also signed up several years ago and have had
absolutely no problems. It is a professional site full of great up to date
research results, written in clear medical terms and, if you wish, you can
subscribe to a weekly newsletter alerting you to the latest research in your
therapeutic area, e.g., gastroenterology.

It is the site that your doctor should refer to for his continuous medical
education (CME). I even do the CMEs now and then if I feel up to it.

It would be well worth signing up for. You will end up the wiser, but not
the poorer, for it.

How is it different than pubmed.com?
There is no pubmed.com that I know of but there is a WWW.PUBMED.GOV
Pubmed is a government or more to the point National Institute of
Health site
that contains most of the abstracts and links to numerous full
articles
from a large share of the world's medical journals.

Medscape is a site directed to people with a strong interest in
medicine. It is a commerical site but it is a good one. One at
times has to realize it will be pro-orthodox medications due its
nature. But that has a certain value as well. It even has CME
articles for medical professionals that are often well worth
reading. Medscape is better than Medpage. Medpage is
in my opinion a more bias source on some topics for example it fails
to carry enough articles on male hormones.

I'll also suggest one avoid Medlineplus as a primary source as it is
dumbed down
and very bias, IMHO. Understand it has been a long time since
I've even look it.

I'd certainly compare and contrast both resources when reading up
on any medical topic or biological topic.
And at times it is worth to cast the net even wider to include
the Usenet, Yahoo groups, support sites, "quack" sites, and the web.
Though one may need rubber boots.............
