I have a problem with my throat i dont if it is to do with a throat
problem and reflux irritating it or just reflux by ityself. This
whole problem was caused by having a bad reaction to an ectasy
tablet. Anyway, recently I have been taking paxil an anti depressant
and my throat problem seems to have improved. It is also seems to get
worse when i am tired and worn out. violent burps coming up into my
nose etc. I will go to LA, anyone recommend a good ear nose thoat
and gastroentrologist?

Before you commit to the orthodox meds for GERD, I suggest you
go to alternative medicine provider and talk to them
about the use of betaine HCL capsules.

The standard conservative advice is to sleep on an incline, not eat
several hours before
bed, avoid certain foods such as citrus, tomato, peanut butter, greasy
foods, etc and etc. And of course chocolate, coffee, and china tea.
I no longer use much of this advice though I do still avoid
coffee, chocolate, and china tea.

The orthodox Doc will first put you on a PPI med (Nexium or like drug)
or maybe only a H-2
acid reducer. And then when you get dyspepsia (due to the
acid suppression, IMO) they'll
add another med for that problem. Their answer is
expensive meds that don't solve but only partly mask the problem and
add
some problems of their own. If you follow the main line Docs this
will go on for decades and you will be a cow they can milk of
money.

Try the LEF.org site. They have a list of longevity Doctors
who might have some idea about using betaine HCL for
GERD symptoms. Understand even they don't claim
it works for everyone.
Wright up in Washington State is known to have some
patients use betaine HCL. Phone around some practices
like this will have front office staff that can help.

Sorry I missed your posting so I am very late in
responding.
