Howard,

Just a quick question...

I had manometry and 24 hr. Impedance tests perfromed here in Raleigh
over two weeks ago, but still do not know the results.

Is such a lengthy wait the norm with a Ph Impedance test??

Thanks.

It depends entirely on the practice of the doctor that's reviewing the
tests. Many years ago, the reason my surgical partners and I decided to
obtain our own pH and manometry equipment and do them ourselves was in large
part because the gastroenterologists we were depending on to perform and
read them were taking up to a month to get the reports back to us.
Parenthetically, it was at that point that we began to understand that most
gastroenterologists don't really understand GERD very well.

The answer to your question is yes, it can take that long or longer. In some
cases it can take an hour to read and interpret one of those tests and it
can be difficult for a busy doctor to get that kind of time.

Thanks very much Howard. I really appreciate you answering back.
It's been three weeks today (tests performed on Nov. 11 at Rex
Hospital)...and still have yet to hear results back from my doc.
But if I don't hear from them today by late morning, I will give them
a call to find out what's going on at this point.

Thanks again,
Blake

By all means do call. You are paying them to perform this service for
you and you have a right to expect a certain level of performance.
